Meet Don

Name:  Don Davidshofer

Job title: Project Manager

Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa

College/University: “I am always learning.  While my formal training is Product Design, I believe curiosity, combined with acceptance of making mistakes, is the best education one can have.  Oh, I have made lots of mistakes, but I also have quite a few successes!” – Don

Area(s) of Expertise:  Solving for customer needs, plastic part design

Hobbies: Fly fishing, beer brewing, knife making, fly tying, genealogy, restoring machine tools, asking questions and following my nose.

Pets: “Barli.  At a svelte 60 hound-pounds, Barli is a dog with lots of personality.  As my first dog, I was commissioned to name her, but the stipulation was that her name HAD to be beer related.  Barli (a barley-colored Goldendoodle) is the perfect first dog.  I also have a cat named Peanut.  She isn’t very svelte, but we won’t tell HER that.” -Don

Favorite food: Tacos – I was reacquainted with Torchy’s Tacos here in Boulder two nights ago!

Favorite aspect of your job: The challenge of taking a problem and turning it into an opportunity that goes into production.  Working with cool and creative people!

Coolest invention/project you have worked on: “The fun projects are always those where you ‘discover’ features or functions that were not intended or anticipated.  I worked on a cost-down vacuum cleaner project that we discovered we could improve performance, make the dust containment area larger, enhance user functions, reduce noise, improve quality — AND we reduced costs by 25%.” – Don

Fun Fact(s): “After three years of research, I am anxiously awaiting my first published book.  A fictional story, based on facts, the book is about my family in the 1940’s.

My sister Mary runs a pig farm in Iowa.  She was super excited to hear I was joining Flying Pig Designs!” – Don
