It’s Science Month here at Flying Pig Designs and everybody is ready to celebrate!  What better way than with a few (messy) fun experiments? My daughter, also known as the Mad Scientist in Training, has put together her list of favorites.   These 5 great experiments show some basic principles such as Potential Energy, Fluid Dynamics, Magnetism, and more.  Sound cool? We had a blast researching these videos.  We hope you like them too.  Enjoy!

Also, please don’t forget to participate in the March for Science this month!  You can find out more on my blog or on the March for Science page.

Most of these experiments are safe to try at home, but please be smart.  Use proper safety equipment and always have an adult present!

Physics:

In this video, you’ll learn about some of the science behind great egg drop experiments.

How high can your egg survive?

Liquid Metal:

No, it’s not the Terminator.  This real metal is used in a variety of applications in technology.  It’s also a blast to play with too!

Non-Newtonian Fluid:

Now, while I don’t recommend turning your pool into a Non-Newtonian Fluid, this substance is pretty amazing to experiment with on the benchtop.  If you really want to go big, I recommend a plastic kiddie pool, as filters don’t take kindly to this stuff.  Want to learn more about the science behind this crazy stuff?  Check out Science Learning Hub.

What creative ideas do you have for a Non-Newtonian Fluid?

Magnetism:

Leave it up to NASA to create one of the coolest fluids on the planet.  This stuff is easy to make and has a variety of applications in the real world too.

Dry Ice:

What halloween party wouldn’t be complete without some Boo Bubbles?  The best part is that they are perfect year round!

And of course, we couldn’t have a science experiment post without a little explosion! Please don’t try this one at home!

What are some of your favorite science experiments?  Please share your comments below!
